Photinia Red Robin 6ft (180cm) in a 25lt pot

Our Photinia Red Robin plants at 6-7ft (180-210cm) in 25L pots are well-established, making them ideal for creating an instant evergreen hedge or privacy screen. Grown for size and density, they provide immediate impact and structure as soon as they are planted.

Photinia × fraseri 'Red Robin' is a popular evergreen hedging plant known for its glossy green foliage and striking red new growth. Fresh shoots emerge bright red before maturing to deep green, creating strong year-round colour contrast.

Key Features

  • Plant Height: 180-210cm (6-7ft)
  • Pot Size: 25L container grown
  • Growth Habit: Dense, upright and bushy
  • Foliage: Evergreen with vibrant red new growth
  • Position: Full sun or partial shade
  • Best For: Instant screening, privacy hedging and boundary planting

This larger container-grown size is ideal for creating established hedging quickly, reducing the waiting time typically associated with younger plants. It works well for screening boundaries, driveways and neighbouring properties while also adding decorative interest.

A single Photinia Red Robin if left untrimmed can be grown as an attractive specimen shrub to a large size but it responds well to clipping and can be used to make a hedge of any height from 3-8ft. Whilst Photinia Red Robin can make an excellent specimen shrub, we do not recommend it as a hedging plant if you are expecting a dense visual barrier as it does have a tendency to go thin with age. If a dense hedge is what is required, we can recommend many alternatives including Laurel, Leylandii, Yew or Portuguese Laurel amongst others.

These Photinia Red Robin hedging plants should be planted 2ft (60cm) apart (as shown in the picture) and should be watered regularly during the first year of planting, especially if planting during the warmer and drier summer months.

We recommend trimming Photinia Red Robin hedging twice a year to keep it thick and vibrant. Once in the spring before a new flush of growth, and once in the autumn. Trimming twice a year will encourage thick new growth with its vibrant bright red coloured leaves.
